Unit 3 Blog Entry Economic Globalizationn

Part A: Reflection

In this unit I learned that....there are sweatshops in China and other places in the world and I learned what sweatshops are and how poor conditions the people work in.
I found it really interesting that…companies outsource their jobs to a place like China and that place makes their prducts for them and example of a companie that outsources there jobs is Nike.
I can connect what have learned in class to (another subject) because….in foods class we are on a unit called international cusine and what we have to do is pick a country and cook food from that country and we have to answer qwestions on that country why foods is like social is because we r talking about China in social and China is the country that i pick for foods.
What surprised me this unit was…..how much they use China for everything like for sweatshops and for outsourcing.
One concept that I am still having difficulty with is….. writing qwizes and writing my essays and my blog entry.
One question I still have is…..how too write a perfect essay and a perfect blog entry
One skill or learning strategy I found helpful was…. having the word wall and the countrys on the side board mabe it easy for me to add any words to any of my writings or add any countrys to my writings.

Part B: Free Trade

Free Trade is trading between countries with no Tarriffs on the products and no  Trade barriers on who you can trade with. The Trade Liberalization can help reduce the barriers of trading the Developed Countries get most of the free trade and the Developing Countries get very little of the free trade.

 Part C: Globalization Cartoon

This cartoon is talking about sweatshops and how santas workshop got moved to Mexico so people in Mexico can make all of the toys for the work shop and the elfs will lose there jobs.

Part D: Globalization Videos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TyVyX_vKG0

This video is a negative effect on globalization. This video is about Sub Saharan Africa and how they dont even make a doller a day so that means they dont even have enough for a bag of chips and how they dont even have enough to water, feed and shelter them selfs and how they dont have enough land to have crops to grow food and and not enough markets to sell goods.

Part E: Globalization and Quality of Life

·         The connection is between income per person and life expectancy is…..How the countries can grow even if they are at the bottom of the grid.
·         Hans Rosling is (pro-globalization/anti-globalization). I know this because in the video…He is pro-globalization because he had nothing bad to say about globalization.
·         The most interesting thing I learned was…..how the countries were poor and sick and they became better and better and know they are rich and healthy.
·         One things I would like to learn more about it….If all of those countries are still growing bigger and bigger.

Unit 1 Blog Entry

PART A
In this unit I learned that Canada is a bilingual country because we speak English and French.
I found it Interesting that just because we are a bilingual countery dosent mean everyone speaks English and French they might speak English and another language.
I can connect what I have learned in this class to foods because we are making food from other countrys.
what surprised me this unit was that most of was that most companies outsource there work to another country so it will be cheaper for them. \
One concept that i am still having difficulty with is all of the vocabolary and knowing what word means what.
One qwestion i still have is why the CRTC makes the commerials louder then the shows.
One skill I found helpful was the word wheel, If i was to teach someone how to use the word wheel i would tell them first to put all 9 words in the middle of the wheel then take one word and put it at the top of the wheel and then pick a second word that is related to the frist word the in the middle of both of the words write why they are related.

PART B

Outsourcing is when a company sends there work to anothother country and why they do this is because then it is cheaper to get all of the supplys for what ever they are making and then they dont have to pay there workers as much.

PART C

This statement is satying that the french dont have to protect there lanuage becasuse they will speak french for the rest of there lives. Bill 101 is a bill to protect the french lanuage. They sould have passed this law in the first place because they dont want to lose the french lanuage for a new language.

The arguments in favour would be that the french want to keep their lanuage so then they dont lose their caltural identity and the arguments againts would be that the french need more then one language in there country so then they can be bilingual and when visitors go and visit then that person has to speak french or english.

I dont agree and agree with this statment because why should the french have to change thier culture just because someone came to the country and didnt speak french and couldnt understand anyone and me agreeing with it is every country should be bilingual and speak more then one language.

Historical Globalization

Part A: In this unit I learned that Residential schools were run by the goverment and churches and that the canadian government tried to apoligies to the First Nations  that went to Residential schools and give them money for going to the schools.
I found it interesting that the Canadian Government tried to apligies and give money to the First Nations that went to Residential Schools because it took so many years to finally do it and that most of the First Nations would probley be died.
I can connect what i have learned in class to foods because the food that canada has here had to inported from diffrent places around the world.
What surprised me this unit was how badly First Nations were abused and not aloud to see there family for 10 months out of everyear.
One concept that i am still having difficulty with is the structuring my writing assignments properly.
One learning strategy i found usefull was the SOAPS( subject, occasion, audience, purpose, speaker) because they really helped me understand a picture i am looking at or an artcle that I am reading.

Part B: Economic Globalization saw a shift from the old mercantile system ( a policy where european monarchs increased wealth thru trade) to a capitalist system ( profit driven, free market) to industrialization of countries ( change from agriculture to manufacturing)  who wanted to compete in the new world economy and the expanding markets. The whole system ended with imperialism (extending political, economic or military control control over another ) as countries tried to acquire new lands in search of raw materials and labor needed for the production of the desired goods

Part C: The primary motivation for imperialism was to produce the consumer goods that the public wanted and felt they needed. The powers of Europe saw the opportunity to civilize and establish colonies in the mad Scramble for the continent of Africa. Africa had what was needed the most for the booming industrial revolution, natural resources and a supply of cheap labor to meet the demands of the publics appetite for the latest and greatest to come from the growing number of factories

Part D: The Legacy of Imperialism in Canada was determined by the outcome of the Seven Years War between France and Great Britain. The British  who won the war were given the territories of France in what is now Canada. with the British taking control of the territories the use of English became the primary language for business and government. The British wanted to preserve the loyalty of the Canadians during the war with the American colonies. The passage of the Quebec Act was to guarantee the Canadians their rights in language, religion and civil law. Great Britain had imperialistic tendancies towards North America. In order to make the colonies more British it encouraged immigration to come to British North America. The establishment of large companies helped to open up the western part of the country for settlement. The fortunes of war helped to determine the outcome of what is now Canada if the war had been decided in a different manner than who and what we are today could be dramatically different.

Part E: The defintion of Globalization is The process by which the world's citizens are becoming increasingly connercted to and depedent on one another. Globalization is related to what i have learned because the world use to be just this small thing every contrey  kept to them selfs and didnt what to interact with other contreys but know every contrey is interacting with each other by trading goods and products and most people travel to other places around the world to learn about there calture and what it is like in other places. This is how Globalization is related to what i have learned.

Blog Introductory Assignment

Part 1 Summary:

So far in social studies i have learned what globalization is and how it  relates to our everyday lives the ones we have been focusing on are social, economic and political. Social means The process in which peoples lifestyle spreads over global networks and example would be facebook. Economic means The process of expanding world trading networks and example would be if your wearing clothes from another countrys. Political means The process by which political decisions and actions are becoming increasingly international an example would be the goverment. i have also learned about cultural contact the meaning of that is the Interaction of two or more independent cultures. One interesting thing i have learned is where our chocolate is made and also where our flowers come from why i think this is because you always want to know where your products come from. I have experienced globalization by wearing clothing from another country's and also eating food made in other countrys.

Part 2 Reflection:

I have completed all of the assignments that have been handed out and i have also compleated the on time and hand them in on time. I really understand the notes that we have taken and what globalization means. I am haveing difficulty with some of the meanings of some of the words we have learned. The two goals i have are too understand all of the words we have learned and the other one is to participate more in class.

Part 3 Assignment:

The type of globalization this image is technological it represents me becuse i am in that time that everything has to do with technology and that i always have my phone on me and i am always on the computer.
