Part A: In this unit I learned that Residential schools were run by the goverment and churches and that the canadian government tried to apoligies to the First Nations that went to Residential schools and give them money for going to the schools.
I found it interesting that the Canadian Government tried to apligies and give money to the First Nations that went to Residential Schools because it took so many years to finally do it and that most of the First Nations would probley be died.
I can connect what i have learned in class to foods because the food that canada has here had to inported from diffrent places around the world.
What surprised me this unit was how badly First Nations were abused and not aloud to see there family for 10 months out of everyear.
One concept that i am still having difficulty with is the structuring my writing assignments properly.
One learning strategy i found usefull was the SOAPS( subject, occasion, audience, purpose, speaker) because they really helped me understand a picture i am looking at or an artcle that I am reading.
Part B: Economic Globalization saw a shift from the old mercantile system ( a policy where european monarchs increased wealth thru trade) to a capitalist system ( profit driven, free market) to industrialization of countries ( change from agriculture to manufacturing) who wanted to compete in the new world economy and the expanding markets. The whole system ended with imperialism (extending political, economic or military control control over another ) as countries tried to acquire new lands in search of raw materials and labor needed for the production of the desired goods
Part C: The primary motivation for imperialism was to produce the consumer goods that the public wanted and felt they needed. The powers of Europe saw the opportunity to civilize and establish colonies in the mad Scramble for the continent of Africa. Africa had what was needed the most for the booming industrial revolution, natural resources and a supply of cheap labor to meet the demands of the publics appetite for the latest and greatest to come from the growing number of factories
Part D: The Legacy of Imperialism in Canada was determined by the outcome of the Seven Years War between France and Great Britain. The British who won the war were given the territories of France in what is now Canada. with the British taking control of the territories the use of English became the primary language for business and government. The British wanted to preserve the loyalty of the Canadians during the war with the American colonies. The passage of the Quebec Act was to guarantee the Canadians their rights in language, religion and civil law. Great Britain had imperialistic tendancies towards North America. In order to make the colonies more British it encouraged immigration to come to British North America. The establishment of large companies helped to open up the western part of the country for settlement. The fortunes of war helped to determine the outcome of what is now Canada if the war had been decided in a different manner than who and what we are today could be dramatically different.
Part E: The defintion of Globalization is The process by which the world's citizens are becoming increasingly connercted to and depedent on one another. Globalization is related to what i have learned because the world use to be just this small thing every contrey kept to them selfs and didnt what to interact with other contreys but know every contrey is interacting with each other by trading goods and products and most people travel to other places around the world to learn about there calture and what it is like in other places. This is how Globalization is related to what i have learned.
